With the design of the Ruiz Library, we strived to integrate the confluence of people and cultures in the community that it serves, while in a broader context, integrating the confluence of geological formations in the central Austin/Texas area. We maximized natural light with a tall, central atrium with clerestory windows, with pinwheeling forms housing the various library functions such as Children's wing, meeting rooms and Reading room. When the library opened, the mayor at the time called it the "best designed building in Austin."
